Today, I hit myself between my eyes and my thigh with my badminton racket. Dumb, but worth it, cause I was on F-I-R-E. Like literally. For some reason unknown, I played really well today. Movement + shots. Wahahahaha

I got Eng 21-11 and made him pant his heart out. Woohoo! hahahaha then I got 15 points off Danny before losing. Best I got before this was 17, but that was when Danny had a bad day. This time, Danny was playing normally and I earned my points, rather than winning from unforced errors. Sounds really braggy and lame, but I feel pretty satisfied now. lol endorphins kicking baby :)

Well, that's sort of the last baddy session I'm attending til after I get back from Malaysia after the hols. Now, it's time for me to go from nerd to lifeless nerd. woohoo

K, I gotta bake brownies for PCL tomorrow then print notes and do my syndicate quiz + read Eisenberg if I got time. But now, it's time to get my ass off the toilet seat and step into a hot bath; it's been 3 hours after badminton and my sweat has already dried up. garh

P.S: 2 month restriciton curse is over :) So now, I'm free from Amy's Vietnamesse superstitious beliefs. BOOYAH

Pharmacology lecturers and their videos. LOL

Our Pharmacology head showed us this during our envenoming lecture.

As you can see, we were discussing spider venom. hahahahaha

Then another lecturer showed us this during our antibiotics lecture.

The vids are by a guy who's carrying bacteria resistant to antibiotics in his body, so he's forced to be in quarantine in the hospital. And he got bored. LOL yea I know the vids are lame, but I found it funny, because I'm lame and a nerd. hahahahaha

I'm eating an apple and typing this out with one hand. lol

Just came back from 4 hours in the library with Nathan. Awesome studying. I'm on fire people, I am on fie-uh. :) But I just noticed I still got quite a bit to cover. After I'm done with biochem (3 and a half weeks of work to go), I still have 120 pages of Anatomy, sociology, medicine of the mind and bloody HEP. But besides anatomy, I can cover the rest pretty fast. T-minus 25 days to exams. huhu

Oh btw, someone fainted in the anatomy museum during prac today. The dude was already sick, then the smell of formaldehyde from the cadavers got to him and whoosh he was unconscious on the floor. He wasn't in my class though, he was in the class before mine. And he hit his head on something as he fell, so he got some bleeding on his head as well. It took a couple of doctors (as in our tutors lol) to bandage him and get him conscious. Haha

But otherwise, anatomy prac was OK. Spent more time in the classroom discussing tute questions than actual hands on stuff. baahhhhh

Anyways, I gtg sleep now. 9am lecture tomorrow. gah I hate morning classes. And then a 3 hour lunch break in which I'm gonna try to study and I have a first-aid test at 3pm. I didn't know it was a test til this evening when Cass told me; I just thought it was some talk we had to go to. But no worries, nothing much to first aid besides feeling, pushing and kissing. You know what I mean =P

Nights!

Ok, so I've haven't been updating frequently lately. So I hope this makes amends :)

So here's some random stuff that happened since I last updated.

Watched Nightmare on Elm Street on Saturday. Bloody Ken Khoo decided to pick the 11.40pm show. >< I hate horror movies with bad guys constantly jumping out of no where. bahhhhhh

Went for badminton as usual on Sunday. Very few people turned up. lol which means a lot of people missed the big fight between Eng and a random old Asian lady who played on one of our courts without asking Eng's permission. As usual, Eng very bluntly told the lady off. And the argument ensued. Imagine an old lady going in an Asian accent: "You are a very rude old man!" and an old man replying in his Asian accent: "You are a bitch!". lololol everyone just stopped mid-game to watch the argument. hahahahahahahaha

As for Monday and Tuesday....nothing much. Classes, then some studying in the library.

And then today! Today's Chadstone's 50th birthday. Which means....MASSIVE SHOPPING CENTRE WIDE SALE! ahahahaha We were in Chaddy from 1pm til about.....8.30pm? I swear I don't know how we spent 7 and a half hours there. Bought 2 t-shirts, a sweater and a Ben Sherman shirt. Ben Sherman was $19, reduced from $90. omgomgomg I'm so happy. hahahahaha oh and I also did grocery shopping. Mum, if you're reading this.....I didn't spend much buying stuff. In fact, I spent more money buying groceries than clothes. So I'm still a good boy. *pats own head*

10.30am start tomorrow. Anatomy prac. We're examining cadavers again. :))

gonna continue my library exile tomorrow and Friday. and then Friday night: poker night at Nathan's place! Going back to the city for the weekend on Saturday. and then from next week onwards, I'm gonna nerd like never before. Which means I'm not going back to the city on weekends starting next week; I'm spending that time in the library in Clayton. ahhhhh the things I do because of my built-in Asian kiasu-ness. The last time I spent a weekend in the library to study for exams, I didn't speak to anybody in the face for 2 days. Yes people, I was in a sad state. LOL

Oh did I mention that next week is out last week of classes for the semester as well? Then it's SWOT VAC (self study time), then exam on the 23rd of June, then Malaysia on the 25th. :)

I'm reaching Malaysia 25th June, 7am. Hohohohohoho. Cant wait =P

AND before I end the post....

CONGRATULATIONS DR NG KHAI HON!!!!!

I'm not sure if you're gonna read this, but congrats on passing your exams. You're sort of the first doctor among the cousins! haha you can feel my pride eminating from Australia :)

Ok, I'm gonna turn in now. Nights peeps!

Hello! As promised (for once), here's some pics from our Alfred Hospital site visit one month ago. Pictures courtesy of Trish's DLSR :)

On the train there

Nathan dressed up so much he looked more like a bloody chinese businessman than a med student. lol

don't ask me why, they wanted to pose with the car. haha

everyone! waiting in the staff lounge for 5th years to bring us around

Jon Lee. Apparently everyone in Melbourne knows him? haha

Right....so the next few pics were taken by Nathan of Trish eating/stuffing her mouth. HAHA. try to ignore me - being me, as you guys know, I looked dumb. lol

BITE

ngam-ngam-ngam

oh shit, I'm on camera

SMILE

wait a sec...

oh crap, the teaching doctor's here

HIDE

haha. Anyways, we split into small groups of 4 after that, and a 5th year brought each group around to find patients and look at stuff. My group had: me, Nathan, Trish and Dhanu. We're awesome. :) and our 5th year was probably the best compared to the other 5th years because he actually tried to make our day interesting (he actually cannulated Nathan for fun after Nathan asked for it haha). The other guides were like "meh, I'm gonna get rid of my group fast. *1 hour later* muahahaha I'm free!" ~YES I know I'm lame. It's in my genes. haha

We couldn't take more photos around the wards and other places after that due to confidentiality and legal issues.

But we did get a group pic with our 5th year. :)

Nathan, Trish, me, Dhanu, Kieran(?)(cant really remember his name). This is in the staff lounge btw, which is freaking cool for a hospital. haha

GROUP PIC outside the Alfred!

Nathan's cannulated arm - which means a needle was stuck into that. All for fun :)

It's bloody freaking 8 degrees outside now.

And here I am, freezing my ass on my toilet bowl (nature calls), with my laptop on my lap, blogging. Who says men can't multitask eh? lol

Well this is gonna be another pictureless post. I promise that when I get back to the city this weekend, I'll post some pics up for you guys. :)

Well, nothing much happened over the weekend....besides TRIVIA NIGHT!

Haha, Cass joined up for some trivia night thing in Clayton on Sunday, so I decided to tag along. Basically it's sort of groups of 10 sitting at tables in a large hall, answering general knowledge trivia questions. It's for a charity in India. haha med kids, we're nerds and we can't deny it. lol

Our table was an all med table (there were 3 more all med tables I think). My teammates: Jo, Lucia, some random chick I don't know, Rachel, Sarah, Samuel, Duncan, Vivian, Nathan, Cass and me.

Jo, Lucia and Cass formed the team so they found it appropriate to name us "Jocia's and Cassy's Special Team". Yea, we're so creative that our team name makes us sound like mentally retarded children. LOL

anyway......

WE WON!!! yes boys and girls, we actually won the trivia night!

Haha the prize wasn't much though: A box with 10 separate packets of roasted nuts (awesome!) and a cake. Oh we got medals too! And we won a $50 voucher to some Indian restaurant in some random suburb from winning another side game as well. :)

Can't complain much, it's for charity after all.

Couple of other interesting things happened during the talent quest part of the night: Adrian (another med kid who is also the junior Asian Taekwando champion - Asian as in he's the Australian champion who won the Asian international championships as well; and he's also Asian by race lol) demonstrated how far he can fly by jumping over 6 then 7 chairs placed next to each other. Which is pretty damn far. LOL. Oh, and we didn't have a talent up front from our group so Cass sort of showed everyone her ability to twist her arm 360 degrees. HAHA

Well, that's all I guess. Gotta wash my ass now.

Toodles peeps

Another post in successive days! Woohoo me! I guess this is sort of the journalling we're supposed to do for our Health Enhancement Program (load of crap). lol

Anyway, heads up, it's gonna be a pictureless post again. Haha

So I had my GP visit today. I got to go to a community health clinic in a really dodgy suburb. It was pretty interesting; it sort of opened my eyes to a different side of community. And my GP's name so happened to be Dr Paul McCartney. LOL

So once I arrived, Paul explained to me that the clinic mainly deals with druggies with overcoming their addictions and stuff. And they also dealt with semi-psychotic people. Anyhoos, their philosophy is they prescribe substitute pills with similar effects as recreational drugs to the patient to replace heroin/marijuana/cannabis and then try to slowly cut down the dosage of the pills. The logic to this is the patient does'nt have to inject themselves (less STIs), it's cheaper and the doctor can control the amount of pills the patient's taking.

So I got to sit in about 10 consultations? about 7 drug addicts, a psychotic woman, a guy who depends on pain killers, and a diabetic guy with 5 times the regular amount of sugar in his blood but refuses to take insulin injections.

All the drug addicts basically knew they had to stop, but they just couldn't. Most of them have been taking drugs for more than half their lives. Heck, 1 dude's been taking it for over 30 years, and he's only 44. lol

One guy took heroin so much, he has 2 ulcerated holes in his groin, bruises all over his leg, blood accumulation in his soles and metal plates in his neck because the bone in his neck has basically dissolved. And he still found it hard to cut down his heroin usage. Another dude's been coping well with the substitue pills and has been cutting down over the last 5 years - one more year and he would be free of drugs. And he's so enthusiastic about being completely clean after more than half his life being dependant.

The psychotic patient had voices in her head. And had thoughts that were'nt hers. freakyyyyy haha

So yea, AWESOME EYE OPENING EXPERIENCE.

Lesson fo the day: DONT' EVER TRY DRUGS. just in case, you get hooked. :)

haha I sound like a naggy parent. bah

OMG

I had anatomy prac just now, and we got to touch a dead body. Yep, a cadaver. AWESOME

Our lady cadaver died of bowel cancer. And donated her body to science (Monash in specific). Haha

We got to see and touch whatever parts the 2nd years dissected. Which so far are only regions of the head and thorax. So I got to touch the brain (which was cut into 3 smaller parts), both the lungs, the heart (atria and ventricles cut open to see the inside), the skull, an eyeball, ribs, muscles and see the body layers in general. SO AWESOME

Don't worry, it was all preserved in formaldehyde. So the body and the organs looked fake anyway. But still it was cool.

The smell of formaldehyde actually made me hungry. No, I'm not weird; formaldehyde either makes you really sick, hungry or doesn't have any effect at all. And I got hungry. Haha

Oh and we got to see like where the organs are properly positioned as well with all the arteries and muscles fitting in and stuff. Our awesome surgical registrar like showed us how the heart and lungs operated as well. COOLNESS

We'll get more chances later in the term to look at different parts of the body, depending on how fast the 2nd years can dissect the cadavers. Since we don't get to dissect them ourselves yet. But we'll get that opportunity next semester. Double awesomeness. :)

Well, I gotta run to the library to print notes and some work now.

Bye peeps! :)

Woohoo! Go me!

I'm shocking even myself.

This is the second time I blogged in a week. =)

Anyhoos, nothing much really happened in the last week.

I'm kicking back and chillaxing now, since I've been running about and clubbing the last 2 weeks.

Take last Sunday for example. It was Anzac Sunday, so boxing Monday was a holiday. Awesomeness. Haha. Anyway, we (me, Cass, Matt, Jason, Paari, the rest of the 3908 gang) went clubbing in Chinatown around 10.30pm? Got out at 4+am and slept at 5am. IT WAS AWESOME. DJ Noodle from Taiwan, DJ Buddha from Bangkok, and DJ Lapsap from Zouk, KL. Best DJs I've seen in my life, all one under one roof.

Gary, Cheng Lin, Yii Min, Jeremy - our French friend, Raymond, Sean, Cass

BAH I look so freaking weird in the pic. But I'm posting it up anyways for the sake fo posting. haha. We're all sweaty because the club was so pack that it was hotter than an acmar classroom with a busted aircond at the hottest time of the day.

So, after clubbing, we slept at 5am, and I woke up at 8am for badminton. 3 hours of sleep and then exercise. (thumbs up). Hanged about the rest of the day and went back to Clayton. Had to wake up for an 8am class on Tuesday.

Hectic much.

Anyway, I'm chilling and taking stuff slow now. More sleep = more satisfaction. :)

Oh, Jeremy (our French friend who's backpacking across Australia and we just so happen to randomly meet and befriend) left today for Adelaide. He managed to find a lift from a German girl online after his first lift got screwed last week. It feels kinda weird, since he's been hanging with us every day for the last 2 weeks and now he just left for Adelaide, then Perth, then France. Oh well, I guess he can keep in touch through Facebook.

Another random thing I'm gonna rant about. There was this zombie parade thing in the city today, where people dressed up as zombies and walked from Carlton Gardens (somewhere at the top of the city near Melb Uni) all the way down to Flinders (which is at the bottom of the city). So yea, the city was packed with zombies. AAAANNNDDD somehow a shitload of zombies crowded the mackers and subway under my apartment. There were like at least 20 people in the mackers queue and the subway queue was equally long. So I had to resort to leftover dinner for lunch. Buggers. lol

Ok, time to discuss dinner options with Gary, Raymond and Cheng Lin. Raymond's cooking, macker's family dinner meal package, or pizza? dilemma dilemma dilemma
